Ideas for a unforgettable day.
Autumn has arrived and with it Coimbra is even more beautiful. Start your tour in Manuel Braga Park, the City Park, next to the Mondego River.
Now the park has its centuries-old trees naked, inviting to sit in one of its green banks and enjoy its beauty. You’ll probably find young lovers there. The floor is now covered with tree leaves of brown, yellow, orange … the characteristical colors of this time of the year. Another highlight is the beautiful “coreto” that you’ll find there. After enjoying the beauty of the park, head to our downtown and discover our traditional commerce. Are you hungry? When you find the “Praça 8 de Maio”, after crossing the downtown, begin to look for the delicious smell of roasted chestnuts and you’ll easily find a street vendor. Continue to discover the narrow streets of our downtown while devouring a “cartucho” of chestnuts. Have lunch there. After lunch, go to “Praça da República” which is the main access to the “Jardim da Sereia”. Enjoy the sun of autumn while walking and discover the garden where you will find lakes, ponds, flower beds and decorative elements such as tile panels. There you can take a break at the Tea House. A special environment in harmony with the surrounding landscape, managed by “Portuguese Parents and Friends association for the mentally disabled” (APPACDM). An initiative that promotes the integration of people with special needs. Go up a bit and end the day with a walk in the “Jardim Botânico” of the University of Coimbra. A beautiful garden which has about a thousand living species from all around the world, considered one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe.
Its in the gardens that you can best experience Autumn. Back home, save this beautiful day in Coimbra in your heart.
