The beautiful and iconic former building Coimbra Post Office, Telegraph and Telephone CTT) , located between the “Dom Pedro V Municipal Market” and Coimbra downtown, was recovered and transformed to receive TUMO – Center for Creative Technologies: an educational program that combines technology with creativity.
TUMO, for young people between 12 and 18 years old, appears as a complement to “formal” education, allowing young people to explore, completely free of charge, 8 different areas that have emerged and gained preponderance today and in the future: programming, animation, game development, graphic design, cinema, robotics, music and photography.
At TUMO, equipped with cutting-edge technology, young people choose the area they want to explore and are given the opportunity to learn, at their own pace and independently, with the help and supervision of monitors specialized in different areas. Activities are in person, twice a week for two hours, and include a combination of self-learning activities, workshops and advanced laboratories. At the end of the course, each student will have a portfolio with their work.
The TUMO concept was born in Arménia, in 2011, and nowadays has 14 centers spread across the world. It has now arrived in Portugal, more precisely in Coimbra, enabling the city to invest in young people with different interests. The city believes that, through TUMO, it’s contributing to a better, more comprehensive, inclusive and fair world where future generations should want to stay. And the TUMO‘s privileged location promises to create new family dynamics, contributing to the appreciation of the city’s historic area.
