In the world of wool.
It is in “Visconde da Luz” street in “Baixa de Coimbra” that you find one of the most appreciated shops by tourists and locals alike. We are talking about Brancal, the only store in the city that exclusively sells wool. The attractive layout and colors of woolen yarns do not go unnoticed and tourists don’t resist on taking pictures of the space. Almost 40 years old, “Brancal de Coimbra” is a story of success. During winters, they even had to introduce a “password” system because of the many customers. Contrary to what might be expected, young people are regular customers just like the grandparents who buy “complete sets” for the grandchildren. Turning back in time, more precisely to the 1960s, the father of the current owners of Brancal began by selling wool, moving around his village with a donkey. This family, originaly from Covilhã, already owns 26 Brancal stores. Hours: Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm; Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
