Must visit in Coimbra.
We went out to discover the urban and local craft shops downtown. In Largo da Portagem we found Malabar that focuses essentially on the Ceramics of Coimbra, that is, on the ware of Coimbra. Hand-painted utility and non-utility pieces feature drawings of animals suchas rabbits, deers and birds. As we passed by the Arco da Almedina, we found Anthrop. This is a project developed by artisans with small workshops and designers who work with new forms of production using materials like ceramics, glass, wood and textiles. They offer a range of unique pieces. We continued to climb the Escadas do Quebra Costas and came across another must stop: the Trouxa-Mocha. This project honors Portuguese customs and experiences through handcrafted products – ware, footwear, clothing, accessories – inspired by the “essence of Portuguese quotidian life”. Finally after Praça Velha, we found the Chronospaper both astore and a manufactory space, the only one alike in the city. Here everything is executed manually , namely book binding (técnica de encadernação),and decorative paper is used. All the products – diaries, notebooks, albums, bookmarks, among others – are unique.
